Kelsey Zuchlewski – Front Desk / Birth Assistant
It would be an understatement to say that the seeds of midwifery were planted for me at a very young age. My premature birth at the hospital came with many complications and left my mother feeling disappointed and traumatized. She knew there just had to be a better way to give birth.
And so entered the midwives.
These incredible women helped her deliver my brother and sister peacefully and painlessly in a supportive and compassionate environment. It was a no-brainer then that I would choose a midwife to deliver my own baby when the time came.
I married my high school sweetheart in 2012 and graduated from Sam Houston State University later that same year with a BS in Communication Studies and a minor in Family & Consumer Sciences with a focus on Interior Design.
My love for helping others achieve their dreams led me to a career in wedding and event planning at a local venue. But still, my heart knew his was not my home.
My husband and I found out we were pregnant Father’s Day weekend 2013 and my search for the perfect birthplace was fulfilled when I found West Houston Birth Center.
It was there in the warm water of a birth pool, on a cold Valentine’s Day morning, that midwife Holly helped me deliver my sweet son George. It couldn’t have been more perfect.
That moment changed my life forever.
A fire grew in my heart to reach out to local moms and spread the good news that our bodies are strong and that we are brave.
When my son turned one, I took a CAPPA labor doula training workshop and began studying for my certification. After attending my first birth, I knew I was hooked and that there was no going back. Birthwork was my home.
So here I am, a birth assistant here at West Houston Birth Center, with goals of becoming a midwife and running my own birth center one day.
I am so blessed to be a part of your journey and to serve your growing family.
